Reds News: TJ Friedl returns, Luis Castillo struggles, Rays release ex-outfielder

TJ Friedl was designated for assignment by the Reds after a disappointing 2026 season and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, though the minor league season has already ended, effectively concluding his year. Friedl batted .172 with a .510 OPS, a dramatic decline from his 2025 performance, and will become a minor league free agent in the offseason. Former Reds pitcher Luis Castillo has struggled with the White Sox, posting a 7.54 ERA in six starts before being moved to the bullpen, where he allowed seven runs in three appearances. Outfielder Jake Fraley, who signed with Tampa Bay, was released after being designated for assignment.
