Reds prospect strikes out 7, allows no hits in winter league debut

Kevin Abel, a 27-year-old right-handed pitching prospect for the Cincinnati Reds, made an impressive debut in the Mexican Winter League, pitching five hitless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk while throwing just 59 pitches. Abel, drafted by the Reds in the seventh round in 2021, spent 2026 split between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville, where he struck out 118 batters across 111 innings despite control issues. Playing for Guasave against Mochis, Abel allowed only two baserunners—one on a walk and one on catcher's interference—and induced six ground outs in the performance. The Reds' affiliate won the game 2-0, with Abel earning the victory.
