Six Players Elect Minor League Free Agency

Six minor league players have elected free agency after finishing the season on outright assignments, allowing them to enter the market before major league free agents. The group includes pitchers Jason Alexander (Astros), Tanner Rainey (Tigers), and Corbin Martin (Cubs), outfielders Will Benson (Reds) and Drew Waters (Royals), and infielder Jonah Bride (Rangers). Alexander posted a 5.26 ERA in 87 innings at Triple-A, Rainey struggled with walks while pitching for Toledo, and Martin dealt with injuries and ineffectiveness in Iowa. Among the position players, Benson appeared in 114 games for Cincinnati before being sent down, Waters did not reach the majors this season, and Bride had brief call-ups with Texas after being released and re-signed by the Rangers organization.
